OUR CAT AND DOG SURGERY SAFETY PROTOCOLS AND PAIN MANAGEMENT

To minimize health risks and prepare your cat and dog for surgery, we follow strict guidelines for anesthesia preparation and monitoring. First, we perform a preliminary physical exam and bloodwork to check organ function and identify hidden health problems. This also allows us to accurately measure the safest anesthesia levels for your pet, and modify their anesthetic protocol as needed. If your pet is ill or we feel that anesthesia may be too risky, we will postpone the procedure.

Next, we will pre-medicate your pet with antibiotics and analgesics. Also, an IV catheter will be placed so we can administer fluids during their surgery. A veterinary technician will be standing by to monitor blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, and oxygen levels. Since minimizing risk is key for every surgery our doctors perform, we can assure you that your pet is in capable, loving hands.

Pain can have a severely negative impact on your pet’s recovery and overall health. Therefore, to reduce their pain as much as possible and encourage a smooth recovery, we offer various pain management options. These include local anesthesia, oral and injectable analgesics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDS), and narcotics. All of these are carefully measured and administered according to your pet’s specific needs.
